Being pregnant can be one of the most rewarding, emotional, and difficult times in a woman’s life. Trust me, I’ve done it a few times! Despite all of the body aches, mood swings, cravings, and the multitude of other surprising side effects of growing a small human inside of your body, pregnancy is, in my opinion, one of the most amazing gifts that God has blessed us uterus-having folks with.
As a Buckhead maternity photographer, and mother of three myself, I love being able to help expecting moms relish in that pregnancy glow and feel empowered in their body. Speaking from experience, I know that pregnancy can not only take a serious toll on a woman physically, but it can also be detrimental to her self esteem. For me, feeling tired, swollen, and hormonal all the time does not generally make me feel sexy. Having gorgeous photos taken of ourselves reminds us that we are desirable, confident, and maybe most importantly, really hot! The whole experience is designed to give expecting mommas just a couple hours of you time. Wear new lingerie, spend time on your makeup, relax with a nice candle and your favorite playlist, and indulge in feeling attractive in your own skin.
Not to mention, who knows if you will ever get the chance to be pregnant again? What better way to capture this transformative time in your life than posing confidently with a round belly and feeling like a total MILF? If you’re thinking about booking a maternity boudoir session, 1) DO IT and 2) let me give you some tips and tricks to follow throughout the process so that you can get the most out of your session and leave with photos that make you feel attractive, beautiful, and bold.
Try on all of your outfits prior to your session to make sure that you like the way you look and feel comfortable and confident in them. Remove all clothing tags so there is no chance of seeing them in the photos. Bringing a variety of styles that highlight your most confident features is a good idea. I suggest having 2-3 outfits that you really like, but you can always bring more and I can help you narrow them down to what will photograph the best.
Prepare for your shoot by getting a wax 3-5 days beforehand (or shave the night before), moisturize your entire body, and drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin. The day of your shoot, wear loose fitting clothes (bra, panties, and socks) to avoid imprints and lines on your skin.
Pamper yourself with a manicure and pedicure in neutral colors. You may also want to get your hair and makeup professionally done if possible – some clients think the extra indulgence is worth it! Be sure to eat a light snack and drink plenty of water right before the shoot so that you feel healthy and ready to pose.
Have fun and remember that this session is all about YOU. This is a time for you to look and feel your best, so come ready to have mini dance sessions, sprawl out in provocative poses, or make goo-goo eyes at the camera. Don’t worry about not knowing how to pose or where to put what, being a Buckhead maternity photographer has given me plenty of experience to be able to help you with all of that – just stay calm and carefree. The more confident you feel, the better your photos turn out, so relax, take a deep breath, and fully become present in this wonderful moment!

“I had a boudoir photo session with Liz, and I can’t say enough good things about it. I was nervous going into the session because I was worried I wouldn’t know how to pose or what to do, but Liz made me feel so comfortable and told me how to pose and what to do, which was amazing. I felt out of my comfort zone when I booked the session, but I am so happy I did it. I had so much fun, and I am very pleased with my photos! I highly recommend Liz by Design Photography!” – Stephanie B.

“Working with Liz from start to finish was effortless, easy-going and lots of fun. A boudoir photography session was something new and a bit intimidating for me, but she took all the anxiety and fear out of it by working with my vision and taste while putting her creativity, talent and professional touch and opinion to work. She is down to earth with the right combo of knowing her stuff and being comedic. Her style commands a natural, less is more approach by leaving something to the imagination – tasteful, natural, yet seductive. The finished product is nothing short of beautiful! I highly recommend Liz for your photography needs. She’ll bring out the best in you!” – Vidya
